Besan Ladoo




Besan Ladoo is a very famous Indian sweet made from gram flour, powdered sugar and clarified butter also know as desi ghee, along with some nuts(optional).
These ladoos are mainly made on festivals or happy occasions and are very simple to make but tastes awesome.

Time it takes :

Prep.time: 10 minutes
Cooking time: 30 minutes
Total time: 40 minutes 

Ingredients: (for 6 ladoos)

1cup besan (gram flour)
1/2 cup powdered sugar
1/4 cup clarified butter (desi ghee)
3 cardamoms (powdered)
5 almonds- finely chopped (optional)
2-3 grated cashews for decoration (optional)

Recipe :

  • Add ghee into the pan and wait until it melts
  • Once ghee melts add gram flour to it and stir well to coat the bottom of the pan with ghee.
  • On a low flame keeping the besan to roast it. 
  • When it starts to turn aromatic and its colour turns slightly dark turn on the flame to its lowest.
  • Add little ghee into it (1-2 tbsp.) if you feel it dry anytime between the process.
  • Keep stirring it continuously or else besan will get burnt.
  • After a while your besan will start turning to its darker colour and also will loosen up leaving ghee on the sides of the pan.
  • By now it should have turned completely aromatic , filling our kitchen with its aroma.
  • Be careful at this stage and quickly remove the pan from the stove leaving it to cool down completely.
  • When the besan cools down add sugar and cardamom into it and also nuts (optional).
  • Mix it with your hands very well to combine it sugar with besan.
  • At first you might feel it dry but keep kneading it with your hands to get greasy mixture of ladoos.
  • Take small portion in your hand and press down into palm tol roll it into balls.
  • You can make 6 ladoos.
  • Quantity may vary depending on size of your ladoos. 
  • Decorate with top of ladoos with grated cashews.
  • Enjoy !

Quick tips:

  1. Keep your stove flame low at all times or else you will end up in burning the besan.
  2. Allow besan to cool down completely before adding sugar otherwise your mixture will be melted and you won't be able to make besan ke ladoos.
