Dinner Rolls (Indian Pav)

Dinner Rolls are commonly known as Pav in India and are used to make delicious recipes, mostly snacks like vada pav, pav bhaji and so on. In this recipe I have not used any eggs as I prefer eggless baking but always remember perfect baking always needs patience.

Time it takes:

Prep.time: 1:40 hrs
Cooking time: 20-25 minutes
Total time: 2 hrs (approx.)

Ingredients: (6 Dinner Rolls)

1 cup of all purpose flour (maida)
1/2 tbsp. of yeast
1 tbsp. of sugar
1/2 cup of lukewarm milk
1tsp of salt
2 tbsp. of oil

Recipe for making Dinner Rolls:

  • Activate yeast first by adding yeast, sugar and 2tbsp.of milk , mix it together and keep it aside for 15 minutes.
  • Next, take flour in a bowl and add salt, oil and activated yeast in it.
  • Knead properly to a make a dough.
  • Take another bowl grease it with oil and shift dough in it.
  • Cover it with a lid and leave it undisturbed for 1 hour.
  • Dough will rise within this 1 hour.
  • Next take a dough and again knead it for 5 minutes to make light dinner rolls/pav.
  • Divide dough to six equal parts and make balls.
  • Place them into baking tray , keep distance between the balls giving them space for another rise.
  • Leave the tray in a warm place for 30 minutes.
  • Brush the rolls with milk without damaging.
  • Bake them in oven for 20-25 minutes at temperature of 180 degree C or 200 degree F.
  • Keep a close eye while baking and remove the tray from oven once you get golden brown colour.
  • Once done brush them with butter to give nice glossy look.
  • Take rolls out on rack to avoid sticky bottom and let them cool down completely.
  • Enjoy with bhaji, soup or anything you like !

Quick Tips:

  1. Oven temperature should not be too high otherwise, your rolls won't get cooked from middle and will be undercooked.
  2. Keep checking in between so that you don't over bake them.
  3. If you think 180 degree temperature is little high for your tray material , turn it low by 75 degree.
